Moon Walk Blues

Moon Walk Blues

I’m not following the moon
The moon is following me

I just want to go home

My hands are closed
Half clawed
But not fisted
For I’m not angry

I pace up & down
To see the secret of summer
In the night air
To satisfy my weariness

The moon, the moon

An ever-changing ball
Of blue light, a story teller

Listening to you
I untangle my memories
To bathe in newly collected echoes
Of a familiar compulsion

I’m not following the moon
The moon is following me

The moon above the profiled silence of the city
The moon behind the monumental flood of our desire

I’m not following the moon
I just want to go home

I turn the corner
The moon shows up
I stare at a lamppost
The moon shines above

Am I overburdening myself with antipathy?

I pace faster & faster
& I become the moon myself

The moon, the moon

An ever-spinning ball
Of reflected heat, a quiet orator

The moon, the moon
I just want to go home

Not to sleep or to rest
Or even to see my love there
But to see if the door will open
Smoothly without making any noise
