Darius James in conversation with Bernard Meisler.
Darius James (aka Dr. Snakeskin) is the author of That’s Blaxploitation, a history of Black exploitation cinema, and the renowned cult classic Negrophobia, a raunchy and hilarious afrosurrealist satire, (“By far the best novel to emerge from New York’s Lower East Side literary scene.”—Kirkus) which will be re-released on February 19, 2019 by New York Review Books Classics. We talked about his childhood in New Haven, his move to Los Angeles where he heckled Richard Pryor (and got heckled right back), and his writing process and how it relates to magick. After the conversation Darius reads an excerpt from Negrophobia.
