Bruce Weber

the monsters have taken over the house
they’re crawling through the refuse
of broken trays of paint
walls and temporary screens
they’re delegating authority
passing their power on to the masks
who remove me from this poem
launching me over the moon
where I drown like icarus
in a sea of my own making
while the monsters shift their shoulders
dodging out of the way of gravity
sending shivers up the spines of the law
disappearing in the matrix of dark apologies
a volley of screams that fade into the wall
